Naming Conventions

Giving your metrics meaningful names will help you organize and analyze them later. Here are some do's and don'ts:

Good

  • users.signup
  • app.open
  • api.response.time
  • checkout.failed

Bad

  • event1
  • thiseventnameishardtoread
  • view
  • 93894
  • secret-api-key

Good names have the following characteristics:

  • •Descriptive
  • •Short
  • •Formatted with special characters (dots, dashes)
  • •Leading with a namespace

Limitations

  • •Maximum characters: 64
  • •White-space is trimmed left and right
  • •Emojis are supported
